There’s a strange, uncomfortable in-between that comes with growth. The routines, beliefs or identity that once fit you perfectly start to feel tight — but you don’t quite know what’s next.

I’ve been there more than once, most recently when I realised the rigid, all-or-nothing version of wellness I’d built my life around wasn’t working for me anymore.

These are the prompts that helped me through it.

The prompts

  1. What used to feel exciting that now feels like an obligation?
  2. Which “shoulds” am I still following that I never actually chose?
  3. What did the old version of me need that I no longer need?
  4. What am I afraid I’ll lose if I let this part of me change?
  5. Where do I already feel more like myself than I did a year ago?
  6. What would enough look like, instead of perfect?
  7. Who do I feel most like myself around?
  8. What small thing could I try this week that the new me might enjoy?
  9. What do I want to thank the old version of me for?
  10. What am I ready to release — gently?

How to use them

Pick one, set a timer for ten minutes and write without editing. There’s no right answer, and you don’t need to finish them all. Come back when you’re ready.
